Honoring Excellence at DRRHS

At Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School (DRRHS), excellence is not just a goal, it is a commitment. In a society where individual success is often praised, the National Honor Society (NHS) reminds students that true accomplishment is not limited to individual achievement, but rather assisting others and leading with integrity.

The National Honor Society is an organization that recognizes the accomplishments of nationwide high school students within the organization’s pillars: leadership, scholarship, service, and character. At Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School, the James Frates Chapter of the National Honor Society continues to uphold these essential values with various community service initiatives throughout the year.

The Induction Journey

To be considered for induction into the National Honor Society, students must meet the first pillar of the National Honor Society–scholarship. To do so, students must possess a cumulative GPA of 96.0 or higher (without rounding) at the end of one’s sophomore year or end of their junior year. Students become notified of their eligibility once they return to school, in which they will enter the portfolio process. Each student then assembles a portfolio that showcases their accomplishments within the other three pillars of the National Honor Society: leadership, service, and character. The completed portfolios are then reviewed by a council of DRRHS faculty members in order to determine admittance. Additionally, there are currently 28 students part of the National Honor Society, and 37 students eligible for induction this year.

Excellence in Action

Being a part of the National Honor Society presents students with immense scholarship and leadership opportunities, such as tutoring and volunteering at recognized organizations. By taking up these leadership opportunities, members of DRRHS’ NHS chapter continue to carve their own paths to success. As DRRHS’ NHS chapter advisor, Mr. Pacheco, elucidates, “it provides [students] with opportunities to meet people from all walks of life through community service, it allows [students] to help build a strong community, and it opens up academic opportunities for [students] through honors programs and scholarships.”

Leadership Through Service

Once inducted, members also have the opportunity to take on leadership roles within the NHS as officers. This year’s officers of the 2025-2026 school year are dedicated to continuing the chapter’s legacy of service and leadership:

A Legacy of Honor

Being a part of the National Honor Society has granted exceptional opportunities to the students of Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School through service and leadership, and has proven to be much more than academic success. As NHS President, Kaitlyn Arguin, claims, “It has given [her] the confidence to reach for leadership positions and step out of [her] comfort zone.” With every community service initiative and leadership opportunity, Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School’s NHS chapter continues to exemplify that true excellence extends far beyond the classroom.
