I’ll admit, when I first heard of Showcase Pro Wrestling, I was hesitant to actually attend an event. I was never big into wrestling, and most of the wrestlers I did know were the big Hollywood stars, and I had certainly never heard of Showcase. I heard about it from a friend’s offhand comment and only decided to go to their Marchaversary Aftermath event because I simply had nothing else to do that Friday.
But it’s safe to say that choosing to go was the right decision. By far.
I had a great deal of fun at this two-hour event at the Taunton VFW. While it may not have been in a big-budget stadium, Showcase Pro Wrestling proved that big surprises often come in small packages. It was the fights that counted—and boy, were the fights good. I quickly found myself wincing with every slam to the floor and cheering with every finishing move, sucked into the infectious atmosphere of the event.
The talent kept me on my toes the whole time. The obvious highlight was the YouTube World Championship between D-Rex and Shaya Shabo, which D-Rex triumphantly clinched in a come-from-behind victory. I also found myself rooting for former Tag Team Champion Osirus making his return after a victorious bout with cancer, and despite losing the match, he won the hearts of everyone in attendance. Dighton-Rehoboth’s own Isaiah Fontaine also made an appearance, and though he didn’t fight, my hopes are high for his next bout. I know I’ll be attending.
Overall, Showcase Pro Wrestling proved to be an underrated gem of an experience. I’d certainly recommend going to their next events: Showcase Saturday Night on May 2nd and Friday Night Mayhem on May 8th. Even if you don’t think you’re a fan of wrestling, Showcase guarantees to turn you into one. It certainly worked for me.
