About

The Falcon Flyer was established during the summer of 2025 as a way to communicate with students, parents, faculty, and the DR community as a whole.

The Falcon Flyer contains content from both students enrolled in the journalism course (both fall and spring semesters), as well as from students who are part of the newspaper club.

Journalism is a semester-long course offered for all grades where students gain insight into many of the real-world skills used by 21st-century journalists. In the course, they analyze and discuss current issues and events, write articles on topics of personal and community relevance, and learn the basics of online publishing. Additionally, students examine the history, laws, and ethics of American journalism, focusing particularly on how advancements in technology impact the field of journalism.

The newspaper club is also offered to all grades, and anyone is encouraged to join—no experience necessary. Students meet weekly (Thursdays in room 302 until 3:00) to discuss advancements for the paper. Roles include writing, editing, media work, photography, and publishing. Students work on content in a self-paced manner with a focus on their interests as well as the DR community.

About the editor: Ms. Stasiuk graduated from Bridgewater State University in 2023 with a bachelor’s in English and secondary education. She started teaching at DR shortly after and has been there for three years. Aside from teaching journalism and running the newspaper club, Ms. Stasiuk teaches 10 College Prep English and AP Language and Composition. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in curriculum and pedagogy at Fitchburg State University. In her free time she enjoys going to the beach, fitness, reading, shopping, and reality TV.
