The Dighton-Rehoboth JV baseball team had a pretty good season this year. They went on the yearly trip. This program shows a bright future for the team, as many of the players are currently freshmen. This team consists of players Artie Holmes, Thomas Coughlin, Mason Mello, Matthew Carlson, Ryan Sykier, Jameson Sullivan, Liam Kelley, Jax Fogel, Nick Miller, Ryan Hatton, Jake Gates-Ryan, Colin Roberts, Robert Sanford, Ryan White, Adrian Jiminez, and James Boulay. 13 out of 16 of these players are freshmen, showing a bright future for DR baseball.
The Falcons JV team led off their season with a win over Oliver Ames. This was a good start for the Falcons, securing a win and a good start to the season. Their next game was against Case, where they got out to an early lead and managed to hold onto it and secure a 6-5 win. They then suffered their first loss of the year, losing a close 4-3 game to VOC. They then won an easy 15-5 game against Nauset before suffering another unfortunate loss, 9-4, to Old Rochester. Then they played Oliver Ames again, this time struggling against their pitching and losing 7-0. Next, they went to Somerset Berkeley, finding their bats again and getting a 6-1 victory. This is where they suffered their worst loss of the season. They were winning 7-0 against Apponequet going into the last inning, and a win seemed all but certain. However, they ended up letting up 8 runs in that one inning, leading to a devastating 8-7 loss. They then went on to play VOC once again, once again losing, this time 10-3. Their next game was against Borne, where they got a comfortable 8-3 win. They got their revenge against Old Rochester, beating them after losing to them earlier in the year, defeating them in a 5-1 game. They defeated Somerset-Berkeley 5-2, beating them for the second time that year. Then they played Fairhaven. This game looked all but lost, as they were down by as many as 10 runs. But the Falcons didn’t give up, battling back on key hits and many runs by all players, coming from way behind to get an 11-10 win. They then played Apponequet again, fueled by their anger at their loss earlier in the season. They fought hard but came up short, losing 3-2. This is when many of their games ended up being cancelled, such as 3 games against T. Seekonk and one against Nauset and New Bedford. This was unfortunate for the JV team, as they played 5 games less than they should have. But they still ended their season strong, beating West Bridgewater 8-7 on a nice comeback victory. While the DR JV Falcons baseball team didn’t win every game, they showed a strong team with many young players, going 9-6 and representing a bright future for the DR baseball program.
I was personally a member of the Falcon’s JV baseball team. I had a lot of fun this season. Many of my friends are on the team, and I love playing baseball. This made it a really fun season for me. I was able to play my favorite sport with all my friends for the whole spring. Game-wise, I had a really good season, one of my best in a long time. My good playing contributed to the fun I had, because it’s way more fun to play a sport when you’re doing well in it. Unfortunately, my season was cut short, and I was unable to play in the last game. I dropped a weight on my foot, fracturing my big toe. While it was an unfortunate thing, I still had a really good season and am excited to continue playing next year.
