Spring sports are among us! This year for boys’ volleyball, there are seniors and lowerclassmen alike who share extreme talent and love for the sport. This was shown in their recent match against Barnstable; it seems like they truly have a shot this year in terms of the team’s resilience and will to win.
The tournament is an end-of-year tournament that is held for some of the best teams within Massachusetts to find who the state champion will be, where Dighton-Rehoboth has only made it there a few times.
This year the team is smaller, with 16 boys on the team, just shy of having a junior varsity team. This means everyone is automatically on varsity, which means everyone feels they need to try twice as hard to live up to the status of “varsity.”
Some heavy hitters this year that very well have the potential to carry the team to the tournament are Connor Ruhle, an experienced middle who has been playing for years; Andrew Cabral, a very powerful hitter that scares the other team from his power alone; and Logan Menezes, the libero of the team who is excellent and brings everyone up when the match seems dire.
With many players being unable to be on the court due to the awkward team size, there are many members to cheer on the best, which motivates them to do even better. Despite some not getting playtime, they show it does not affect their love for the game. When they do make it into the court, the effort is commendable, and they play their hardest to show they care for the game and team alike!
So, the question is, will the team make it to the tournament this year? I believe so. The team this year is resilient and has courage, clearly wanting to make it, and it shows they will do anything in their power to make it there, so let’s cheer them on through the rest of the season. Go Falcons!
