Flash! The camera goes off as the senior class walks through the door. The red carpet is laid on the floor, leading people into the auditorium. The life-size Oscar award stands tall in front of the door as the golden lights shine down. Stars line the floor, with each nominee’s name printed on them. Chatter fills the room as people settle down, ready for the night to begin.
The Senior Superlative Oscar Night is a tradition that was started a few years ago where, after the superlatives are voted for, the seniors get a night where trophies are handed out and skits are played after being filmed a bit before. What started out as just an announcement over the loudspeaker changed into an event that everyone looks forward to each year. Ms. Tremblett said that “we wanted to find a way to celebrate it with humor and to allow all seniors to participate even if they weren’t nominated.” The addition of the comical skit started a few years ago when a couple of editors thought it would be a fun way to bring the show to life. Starting a few weeks in advance, the seniors are able to cast their votes on each category. It then gets narrowed down to two finalists for girls and guys, and the winner is chosen by popular vote. This year’s main presenters were Ainsley Zibrida and Gia Papa, along with Mrs. Tremblett, who coordinated the whole event. Selected speakers each got up to announce the winners of each category. The winners were:

Each award that was given out was accompanied by a skit that was filmed by DR Film Production with the nominees in each skit. There was a new award given out at the end, which was for Best Performance. It was an award given to the person who gave it their all during the skit. That award went to Ben Gardner and Peyton Auger. Each winner got an Oscar trophy and a certificate that detailed which superlative they won.
Oscar Night is a fun DR tradition that celebrates the senior superlatives and the senior class. The Yearbook Staff and the DR TV Film Production Staff did a wonderful job making everything come together and ensuring that the night was a success. Special thank you to DR TV, who filmed and edited all of the skits, and to Ms. Tremblett and the Yearbook Staff for making sure that the night was a success and for putting on a great show!
