The Dighton-Rehoboth fall sports season has come to an end with many successful seasons for the teams. The fall sports included girls and boys soccer, girls volleyball, football, girls and boys cross country, unified basketball, golf, and girls field hockey.
The girls’ soccer team was coached by Coach Cooke and Coach Rodrigues. The girls’ team ended with a record of 9-7-1. The team was led by Cailee Leonard on offense, who had thirteen goals and seven assists for the team. The defense was led by senior defensive backs Ainsley Zibrida, Riley Kazanjian, Julia Mello, and Isabelle Rego. There were three shutout games during the season, which were led by junior goalie Alexis Pettinato. The team made it into the state tournament but lost the first round to number three seed Norwell. After this season, the Girls Soccer team will be losing ten seniors from a roster of only twenty-three girls, so they hope to rebuild the team and come back stronger next season.
The Boys soccer team was led by Coach Morgado and had a season with many ups and downs but included many out-of-conference wins. The senior class had two final four appearances, and this season showed the great leadership accomplishments of the team. The boys’ team was led by Captains Henry Murdock, Dario Conceicao, Seamus Sullivan, and Zachary Viverios. The seniors were Andrew Cabral, Henry Murdock, Seamus Sullivan, and Zachary Viverios. The future season looks bright for the boys soccer team.
The Girls Volleyball team was led by Coach Pacheco and assistant Coach Barber. Coach Pacheco explained the competitive season that the girls’ team has this year. They ended with wins over Seekonk, Greater New Bedford Voc Tech, and Southeastern. Standout players on the team included senior captains Sara Marsella, Elaina DaSilva, and Bella Bouchard. Coach Pacheco said that the captains “made their opponents earn every point this year.” Individual highlights included senior captain Sara Marsella, who had 141 assists; senior captain Elaina DaSilva, with 69 aces; junior Victoria Czech, with 83 kills; senior Kylie Smith, with 70 blocks; and junior Hailey Roy, with 202 digs. The team hopes to continue to build the team and come back stronger next season.
The football team had an impressive season being led by Coach Gousie. The team finished with a record of 4-7 and placed third overall in the SCC Conference. The team had major wins over Sharon, Dover-Sherborn, Apponequet, and Greater New Bedford Vocational. Standout players included senior Titan Grassie and juniors Cooper Benifeito and Maddox Mendoza, who were all elected to all SCC players. Honorable mentions for SCC players included senior Kensley Macean and junior Noah Godsoe.
The girls’ cross-country team had only nine girls and was led by captains Jaelyn Johnson and Maryeileen Kelleher. Standout freshman Alyssa Daniels earned SCC all-star and league MVP for her freshman year. Sophomore Sara Avery-Pham also got SCC all-star, and senior Maria Avery-Pham earned SCC Honorable Mention. The boys’ cross-country team had twelve runners and was led by captains John Paul Lavigne and Hawkyns Pray. Pray placed first for the team at every meet and earned SCC All-Star. Lavigne, a senior, earned the SCC Sportsmanship award, and junior Samuel Pickford and sophomore James Holt also received an SCC Honorable Mention.
The Unified Basketball team was led by Mrs. Pimento and Mrs. Burnham and assisted by Mrs. Nappi, Ms. Raposa, and the staff at South Coast Collaborative. The team went 4-1 for the season and was joined by Zach McCann, Stephen Paiva, Ryan Paiva, and Forge Duczkowski for the first time. The team had a roster of fourteen players who battled hard the whole season and gave it their all.
The golf team was led by Coach Cute and finished with a 5-13 record. Despite that, the team was led by Junior Charlie Rosa, who was the team’s Most Valuable Player, a state finalist, and an SCC All-Star. Captains Mason Ellinwood and Connor Bessette were named SCC Honorable Mentions and helped lead the team throughout the season. There are a lot of young players hoping to come back even stronger next year.
The girls’ field hockey team had a small roster for the 2025 season with only six returning varsity players. They were led by seniors Reese Jefferson, Madison Williams, and Rebecca Zankul. Reese took charge of the team for offense and was the leading goal scorer in the SCC. Rebecca and Madi were leaders for the team on defense. The highlight of the season was when the team came back from behind to beat Taunton. The team was full of determination and heart and had a big season of learning and rebuilding. The team hopes to come back stronger next season.
